Someone stole a desktop PC, containing personal information of 6,200 people, from East Tennessee State University in Johnson City.

What type of personal information?  Not disclosed.

What was the response? The school notified affected people, which includes graduates, to advise them to place a fraud alert on their credit files. In addition, the college set up a website informing victims on identity theft avoidance.

Details: The machine, which was stolen May 17 from a secured area, was password protected and cannot be easily accessed.
