U. of Texas students’ personal information available online last month

The personal information of 22 University of Texas students was available to access on a university website.

What types of personal information? Social Security numbers.

What was the response? University officials are working to not use SSNs except where they are needed.

Details: All affected students were enrolled in a petroleum and geosystems class during the summers of 2001 and 2002.

The university took the files offline shortly after being notified by SSNBreach.org.

Quote: “It’s just really, really scary with identity theft and all that,” said student Blanca Valencia.
