Chipmaker suffers data breach

Semtech, a Camarillo, Calif.-based supplier of analog- and mixed-signal semiconductor products, notified its U.S. employees that a laptop containing their personal information was stolen from a third-party vendor.

How many people affected? Unknown number. Semtech notified all of its U.S. employees but it is unclear how many of Semtech’s 690 total workers are based here.

What type of personal information? Undisclosed.

What was the response? The vendor, who was not named, has agreed to pay for one year of credit monitoring and identity theft protection services for victims.

Details: Semtech would not release details on when the theft occurred.
