Stolen laptop compromises personal information of VeriSign employees

What happened? A laptop was stolen from the vehicle of a VeriSign employee on July 12 or 13.

What types of personal information? The laptop contained names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, salary information, telephone numbers and home addresses of an undisclosed number of current and former VeriSign employees.

What was the response? VeriSign mailed letters to victims.

The company said in a statement that it is working to shore up its data security policies.

The employee in question has since left VeriSign.

Details: VeriSign does not believe that the thief or thieves acted with the intent to extract personal information.
